It was shorty after september 11th, 2001 when I first met Frank in person. I had always enjoyed his work and was extremely excited at the possibility of meeting with him. I was a budding filmmaker with aspirations of launching Hoboken’s First Film Festival, The Back East Picture Show. I thought it would be a much needed “shot in the arm” for the Hudson Waterfront after the tragic events of 911. I had a personal connection to Frank through a mutual friend and thought it would be a terrific idea to dedicate our awards ceremony to one of New Jersey’s finest actors; by honoring  him with a life time achievement award. 

We met for dinner at an Italian restaurant, of course, in Ridge-Wood; talked a bit about the potential event and enjoyed a nice meal. Shortly there after; Frank was in agreement and we began to feverishly put it all together. Frank was much more than an honoree at our event. He worked with us from beginning to end, ensuring that it all went smoothly.

I had spoke to Frank almost every day during the months, weeks and days leading up to the ceremony. He was encouraging, inspirational and became a loyal friend. Frank was a great guy.  I was very emotionally involved in having our event exceed Frank’s expectations. It was our intention to deliver an event worthy of his extensive body of work. When the big night arrived, April 27th, 2002, it was standing room only at the Liberty House on the Jersey City waterfront, honoring one of the great actors of film and stage. And as you looked across the Hudson River that evening, there was no denying the emptiness we all felt in our hearts where the Twin Towers once stood. There was no way to explain it. It was a loss you would never forget but just learned to live with. Frank Vincent’s life, his mentorship, the way he touched although those around him both professionally and personally will never be forgotten. And although it doesn't make the loss any more acceptable; he will be for ever memorialized on the silver screen and certainly never forgotten. Rest in peace Frank.
